About the German Theater Project
Our original goal was to encourage the vitality of German instruction in Indiana high schools, the foundation for the continued viability of German in colleges and universities in the state and beyond. A theater festival and competition would put a creative project at the center of the work of German classes and German clubs in high schools, a counterweight to the test-driven atmosphere that nowadays prevails in schools. The Germanic Studies Department at Indiana University Bloomington strives to offered a wide variety of venues for involving students in German-centered cultural events and aiding and energizing teachers.
Since the first festival in 2014,
more than 400 students
more than 30 teachers
from more than 20 different schools across Indiana
have particpated in the IU German Theater Project for High Schools!

Welcome to the German Theater Project—and our new website launch!

Hallo, willkommen, und viele Grüße to our visitors, old and new! Please enjoy looking around the redesigned, relaunched site. As you navigate, you will find both necessary information regarding participation in the German Theater Project at IU, as well as a newly-launched viewing section for winners of the German Theater Project yearly event, which includes videos.
The site redesign is intended to be cross-browser compatible and mobile friendly, with the exception of Internet Explorer version 10 and below, but we're not all that far behind the curve, right? ;) However, best viewing is in Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. If you run into issues, please let us know!
More exciting things are coming soon, including a T-Shirt Design contest, so keep an eye out for email correspondence and updates to this website regarding a great opportunity to further engage with the GTP at IU and earn a spot in the day's festivities!
